Xuanzhe Han

A chrome extension I made with a group of 5 people. It allows users to upload their resumes, and when they are browsing LinkedIn job postings, they can use the extension to match uploaded resumes to the job posting to see an overall compatibility score and individual compatibility score for each resume so the user can easily determine which one is more suitable for the particular application.

The extension will also parse the posting and show the user keywords like required skills, job location, etc. In addition, it will present the user with a glassdoor review of the company.

React was used to build the extension's frontend, which is what I primarily worked on. StreamLit, FastAPI, LevelDB, and SpaCy were used for backend. Click here to check out the repository and here to watch a presentation video.

A Network Attached Storage I made using a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, 4 hard drives, and a SATA hat I bought online. It's running Open Media Vault. I designed the case myself with Autodesk Inventor.

The NAS has a magnetically attached side panel, fan grill, and feet. I also made a external temperature-controlled fan using an arduino that can also be magnetically attached. Check out this video to see the fully assembled NAS and this video to see the fan module in detail.

I have made several macropads with Raspberry Pi Pico. All of them were coded with MicroPython. The first macropad I've made was modeled in the Autodesk Inventor and hand soldered. I later designed a PCB with KiCad and made two more macropads using those PCBs. The designs for those macropads were made using Fusion 360. These macropads all had programmable layers with different functions for each key. The user can switch layers on the fly.

The case and keycaps are designed in Autodesk Inventor and 3D printed. Watch this video to see the macro pad in action and this video to see the design.

A smart trash grabber with an accompying mobile app I made with a team of 4 other people in 36 hours. Most parts on the grabber are 3D printed or laser cut. It features a servo-operated claw, allowing users to pick up trash with the click of a button. If the grabber detects trash being picked up with its depth sensor, it will beep and send GPS location data to the grabber's accompanying app.

The mobile app is a Pokémon-GO style Unity game. The main interface shows the user on a 3D map. People can report where trash is seen on the app, the locations of which will be sent to the backend made using Firebase, and trash hotspots will be calculated using the k means clustering algorithm and shown on the map. Whenever a user picks up trash, the app will receive GPS data from the grabber and display a flower for all other users on the map at the location indicated by the data. It will also increment user XP, incentivizing users to pick up more trash. The objective is to fill the map with as many flowers as possible to make it look like a blossoming garden.

A React web app I made with 4 other people. A user can create an account, choose an avatar, and interact with other users on a virtual platform. They can move their avatar around on a map, chat with other users in a global chat room, and create a little virtual booth with a zoom call link. If other users walk into the booth, they will be prompted with the link to join the call.

The frontend of the app is made using React and CSS, and the backend is powered by AWS with DynamoDB and Ably Realtime. I mostly worked on the frontend. Watch the video to see it in action and visit the respository.

Hi! I'm Mike, a Computer Science graduate student at Univerity of California, Los Angeles.

I'm from Nanjing, a city near Shanghai in China. I came to the states for high school when I was 14. I'm an easy-going, diligent, independent, and trustworthy person.

My Skills

I'm proficient with C/C++, Python. Additionally, I have learned and used Java, JavaScript, OCaml, Scheme/LISP, Prolog, and Bash Script.

I have experience with front-end web development, specifically with React, HTML, and CSS. I have built several web applications and a chrome extension. I'm familiar with various stages of software development, and am proficient in using Git in a collaborative working enviroment.

Having studied various topics in the field of computer sceince, I have extensive knowledge of programming languages, algorithms and data structures, software development methodologies, and web technologies. I also possess strong foundational comprehension of digital logic in computer systems, operating systems, automata theories, and the design principles of programming languages. I have studied extensively in various topics in machine learning. I have strong foundational knowledge of old ML models like Naive Bayesian Models, K Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression Models, and others. I also have learned modern approaches to machine learning, including various deep learning methods for both natural language processing and computer vision. I'm familiar with PyTorch and HuggingFace.

My Story

I grew up in a city in China, and when I was 14, I enrolled in an all-boy boarding school in Virginia. The transition from a bustling city to a small school in the mountains was challenging, yet it shaped my present identity.

I learned to be adaptable, to navigate diverse settings. The experience made me independent, more self-sufficient. Living in a communal enviroment with people who came from different countries, communities, family backgrounds eriched my abilities for teamwork and collaboration.

Now that I moved to LA, I found myself appreciating the convenience of cities more than when I was a kid, but I sometimes miss the tranquil life in small towns. The fusion of urban and rural life styles and the exposure to a global community made me who I am today.

My Hobbies

I love coffee. I have an unhealthy collection of coffee-making gadgets, and not enough room to store them.

I watch a lot of movies and TV shows, especially comedies and dramas. My favorite movie is Lost in Translation (I have a thing for slice of life movies)

I enjoy reading science fictions and fictions in general. My favorite sci-fi book is Dune and my two favorite books of all time are Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and The Island by Victoria Hislop.

3D printing is another hobby of mine. I have made things ranging from cursed objects to macropads. I spend a lot of time tinkering with my 3D printer and making small projects.

What I have done

I interned at TAP Series LLC. I worked on a web tool for the marketing deparment built with React and Flask. It utilizes Twilio Sendgrid API to collect marketing email statistics and visualizes them in graphs, allowing the marketing team to see breakdowns of how effective their marketing emails are.

I also worked as an intern for Facial Action Unit Detection Research team at Huazhong Science and Technology University. I worked with BP4D and DISFA datasets, modifying them to work with machine learning models that detect facial action units for automated facial expression classification.

I'm a board member in 3D4E, a 3D printing club in UCLA, and have occupied several positions.

I was the biomedical team lead. I led the team to build custom pipette holders and oximeters. I'm currently the keyboard team lead, and I have led my team to build a macropad, and taught members the basics of PCB design, MicroPython, QMK, and 3D designs with Fusion 360. \ We are currently designing a 75% keyboard.
